Printmaking with Mayan symbols
Varsity Art students studied symbols from Mayan culture and chose one to create into a stamp. They carved rubber blocks using linoleum carving tools, including a bench hook. One side is the Mayan symbol of their choice, and the other side is their own personal symbol. The students studied the four types of symmetry: reflection, rotation/radial, translation and glide reflection. They used symmetry to test their stamps with markers and create patterns.
